Translating in the field of gastronomy for gourmet restaurants requires knowledge of French cuisine, an understanding of the creativity involved and a good comprehension of culinary techniques.

It requires a lot of time to translate a starred restaurant's menu and often involves speaking with the restaurant manager or the chefs to have a better understanding of how each dish is created. Knowledge of the local products is also a plus.
